After months of training on Guernsey’s cliffs, the day to tackle the 3 Peaks Challenge finally arrived. I flew to Glasgow on Friday for an early start on Saturday. At 04:30, I prepared for the day ahead, joining the guide and six others for a briefing before heading to Ben Nevis, our first summit.
We started Ben Nevis at 09:30, facing mixed terrain and heavy rain. The climb was tough, but the fleeting appearance of the sun near the summit gave us a brief moment of relief. After taking some quick photos, we rushed back to the minibus to head towards Scafell Pike.
En route, we were delayed by a traffic accident, but eventually reached Scafell Pike in pitch darkness. Despite the dry weather, thick fog and steep terrain made the climb challenging. Two group members dropped out early, highlighting the difficulty of the 24-hour challenge. We reached the summit in cold, windy conditions, took photos, and descended to move on to Snowdon.
At Snowdon, another member dropped out before we began the final climb. The initial pleasant weather quickly turned into harsh winds and rain, making the ascent dangerous. Despite the brutal conditions, we pushed through and reached the summit, though we didn’t linger.
After descending, we celebrated briefly, exhausted but satisfied. The challenge was tough, yet rewarding. Each mountain presented its own difficulties, with Ben Nevis being the most enjoyable and Scafell Pike the most intense. Snowdon’s unpredictable weather kept us on edge.
This challenge was a testament to human resilience. If you’re unhappy or seeking a challenge, make a change—no matter how small. With preparation and determination, you can achieve more than you ever thought possible.
A huge well done to David for this awesome achievement!
