Support for grassroots sport has been part of Resolution IT’s story for a long time. In this post, we’ll explain what grassroots sport is, why it’s so important, and how we’ve been supporting local grassroots initiatives for the last 15 years.
What is Grassroots Sport?
Grassroots sport refers to local, community-based sport initiatives that are focused on participation rather than competition. They provide an accessible entry-point to sport to people of all ages and abilities.
They’re a huge driver for athletic development, community engagement, social cohesion and building confidence. Often run by volunteers and supported by community fundraising and sponsorships, grassroots sport is essential for maintaining the connection within the local community.
Why Does Grassroots Sport Matter?
Encouraging Active Lifestyles and Wellbeing
Grassroots sports clubs play a vital role in promoting physical activity within local communities. In a time when sedentary habits and screen use are on the rise, these clubs offer accessible and welcoming spaces for people, especially the younger generation, to get moving. By introducing children to sport early on, grassroots initiatives lay the foundation for healthy routines that can last a lifetime.
Building Inclusion and Community Connection
One of the most powerful aspects of grassroots clubs is their ability to unite people from all walks of life. Across local communities, they serve as gathering points where players, families, coaches, and supporters come together around a shared love of sport. For young members, these clubs offer guidance and positive role models, helping them develop key life skills like teamwork, perseverance, and respect. For adults, they offer a chance to stay active, form friendships, and remain connected to their community. With open doors to all, grassroots clubs help break down social barriers and foster a strong sense of belonging.
Discovering and Developing Future Stars
Many elite athletes can trace their roots back to humble beginnings in grassroots clubs. They give young athletes a space to sharpen their skills and experience competition, all under the guidance of dedicated coaches, many of whom volunteer their time. Their support and encouragement play a critical role in helping young people reach their full potential and fall in love with the game.
Challenges Facing Grassroots Sport
Most grassroots sport clubs rely heavily on volunteers, donations, sponsorship and community fundraising to keep the lights on. Equipment, travel costs, coaching and facilities all cost money. Access to athletic spaces is often a challenge too, with many clubs relying on public or shared spaces, such as community centres, school fields, and local parks, which may be in poor condition or difficult to book regularly. Without access to these things, it can be difficult to attract and retain members and provide the training required to gain traction.
Grassroots clubs are often run by volunteers, including coaches, administrators, and mentors. Recruiting and maintaining volunteers is a constant challenge and can lead to operational issues with the clubs.
Resolution IT and Grassroots Sport
Resolution IT Netball Team
In 2010, three years after Resolution IT was founded, we formed a partnership with a Guernsey netball team. Known as the ‘Rezzers’, our sponsorship for this club has spanned 15 years. Since then, our company has grown from 3 fulltime staff members based in Guernsey, to over 80 people spanning Guernsey, Jersey, Dubai, the UK, and South Africa. Rezzers has seen some serious growth during this time too – it’s been a pleasure to watch them face challenges, work hard, and ultimately become renowned as one of the best netball clubs in Guernsey. Their two teams have taken the first and second spots in the Premier Division and they play (and win!) matches against teams across the UK. We’re incredibly proud to be the sponsor and namesake of this fantastic team.
Jersey Bulls Academy
After launching our Jersey office in 2023, we wanted to make sure we also supported grassroots sport in Jersey. We began a partnership with Jersey Bulls Football Club, supporting the Jersey Bulls Academy Girls and Boys teams. We’re delighted to support the next generation of Jersey football players and it’s a pleasure to watch them grow. We look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come.
Guernsey Raiders
Although not technically grassroots, we’re also proud to be the Official IT Partner for the Guernsey Raiders Rugby Club. This established, professional club comprises of five teams, Guernsey Raiders 1st, Guernsey Raiders 2nd, Male Vets, Guernsey Raiders Ladies, and Female Vets, that compete in leagues across the UK. The Raiders are a real pride of Guernsey and a force for bringing the community together.
Home of Guernsey Football – Victoria Park
In 2025, we struck up a partnership with Victoria Park as a Silver Sponsor. Opened in 2025, Victoria Park is Guernsey’s new state-of-the-art football and events venue. Designed to be welcoming and accessible to all, the stadium encourages and supports everyone with a passion for football. We’re proud to support this wonderful new venue.
