The long-anticipated restoration for Saumarez Park’s Japanese pavilion is finally complete, after a summer of hard work by those involved.
As one of the sponsors of this fantastic project, we are delighted to see this important structure be given a new lease of life after years of being laid derelict. The added bridge is a significant new feature, making the Pavilion more accessible and available to everyone to enjoy.
Originally built in 1935, the pavilion has been a favourite spot for families over the years, whether feeding the ducks, finding a quiet spot to rest or watching our island wildlife, but has been marked unfit for use since 2019.
The project was led by the Rotary Club of Guernsey, with sponsorship from Butterfield, Resolution IT, the John Ramplin Charity Trust and The Constables of Castel. The build was completed by Paul’s Joinery, with help along the way from Sarnian Roofing, Bob Froome & Son, Norman Piette, PF+A Architects, Fusion Engineering, Scaffolding Services and Petersfield Plant Centre.
