A Google Study Reveals That AI Could Enhance Two-Thirds of British Jobs
Google estimates that 61% of jobs could be radically transformed by AI
A recent study conducted by thinktank Public First on behalf of Google has revealed that almost two-thirds of British jobs could be “radically transformed” by AI, through boosted productivity, automation, and increased efficiency.
Though many have fears that AI could put jobs at risk, Google claims that only a tiny proportion of roles risk being “phased out”, and the focus should be on the millions of employees who can utilise AI to work more efficiently. Financial Services is predicted to be the most affected industry by AI, but even then, only 4% of jobs are forecast to become redundant, with 83% “enhanced” instead.
Google’s UK Managing Director, Debbie Weinstein, says less than half of people are taking advantage of AI tools in their day-to-day jobs; “The uptake of these tools is very low, and I think the only way we’re going to unlock the potential of what AI can do is actually by getting people to use them, and to feel confident and capable about them.”
The study findings estimate potential gains of over £400bn for the UK economy if AI were adopted to its fullest by 2030, with the average British worker saving 100 hours per year.
Although you wouldn’t be blamed for feeling a bit bored of the AI bandwagon, the subject is a hot topic for good reason. With developments happening at a rapid pace, there’s a real risk in falling behind in a competitive market.
