Work Experience at Resolution IT
Last week, we welcomed Jason Holberry from the College of Further Education for some work experience at Resolution IT. He was kind enough to write about his experience.
My name is Jason Holberry, and I am in the second year of studying for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business at the Guernsey Institute. I am currently on work experience at Resolution IT and I’m excited to be this week’s guest blogger!
I am writing this blog to share my insights on how the Guernsey Institute and Resolution IT work together and my own experience working with the company.
I first came across Resolution IT In late 2022 when I visited their office with my peers from the IT, business, and office administration courses from the Guernsey Institute. We were split into groups and spent time with each team where we were told about the work they do. This followed the same event held the year before and I understand Resolution IT previously supported the College’s Tech Day and provided interview practice for IT students.
I personally found this really helpful to find out information from all of the different teams and see first-hand how they fit in the business and investigate the careers available in both business support and tech. A bonus was the free food provided!
As a requirement of my course, I have to undertake one week of work experience and I decided on going to Resolution IT due to having so much fun and learning a lot on my previous visit. During my time on work experience, I have been assigned tasks in business support, HR, marketing, and managed services. I have learned about the technical support the teams provide and have been given some practical tasks such as writing a blog, drafting social media posts and undertaking competitor research.
What has also surprised me about Resolution IT is how big the company is. I spent the morning today delivering equipment to clients around the island. Whilst I was out, I came across a few other employees who came and said hi whilst they were out supporting local businesses!
It’s not been all work though and at lunch I have made use of the facilities to play against some other employees at pool, darts, table tennis, and on the Nintendo switch. The games room at lunch has been a fun and sociable way to spend my breaks – even if I did lose at pool!
The Guernsey Institute and Resolution IT have a good relationship and several students from the Guernsey Institute work for the company both in technical and business roles. Resolution IT are planning on attending the next Future Workforce Event at the 12 May being held by the Guernsey Institute and I would recommend other students speak to the team from here to find out more about careers in the IT industry.
