Key Takeaways from the Channel Islands Cyber Security Conference 2024
Last month, Resolution IT and Zenzero sponsored and presented at the Channel Island Cyber Security Conference, hosted by Jersey Cyber Security Centre and Channel Island Information Security Forum.
A real highlight for us at Resolution IT was being able to leverage the expertise of Zenzero’s Cyber Security team. We joined Zenzero six months ago and a huge driving factor in this decision was their breadth of services, capabilities and experts. It’s great to be able to start introducing this to our clients and the wider island.
Naveen Kaushik, Zenzero’s Commercial Director, delivered a fantastic presentation detailing how they were able to successfully hack into a leading international bank’s database, gaining admin access for critical systems and accessing thousands of passwords, during a commissioned red teaming exercise. Abdul Ikbal, Head of Cyber, then gave a live demo showing exactly how this worked. You can watch our presentation here.
The overarching themes from the conference were:
- It’s essential to work as a team when it comes to cyber security. This means open communication, collaboration, and co-ordination. Share knowledge, be brave enough to report suspicious activity, and learn from each other.
- User awareness is absolutely imperative. Invest in cyber awareness training for every member of your team, reinforce these learnings regularly, and foster a culture of good cyber hygiene.
- MFA, MFA, MFA! Multi-factor authentication is an absolute must. The more layers of security you have in place, the harder it will be for bad actors to gain access.
