Procurement and Sales Support Officer, Olly Shepherd, explains what it’s like working in Business Support at Resolution IT

Firstly, who are you and how long have you been at Resolution IT?

I’m Olly, a Procurement and Sales Support Officer in Resolution IT’s Business Support Team. I’ve been with the company for just over a year now.

What does your role consist of?

I’m responsible for sourcing and purchasing goods and services essential for company and client operations. This role involves researching suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing vendor relationships to ensure the best possible pricing, quality, and delivery times. I monitor inventory levels, forecast future needs, and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations. I’m also responsible for maintaining all our client software subscriptions, so keep track of all renewals and licensing queries.

My day usually consists of liaising with our clients and our team members with regards to the needs of their projects and what we can provide for them, placing stock orders with our suppliers, receiving in our orders, picking goods from stock to go be delivered, stock check our inventory. You’ll also find me preparing quotes, chatting to our suppliers about new upcoming releases, adding inventory or setting up projects and contracts for our other departments.

Sometimes I’m also called in to make and assist with deliveries, taking the products out to the client.

What’s your favourite part about working at Resolution IT?

I love that it has a real community feel, for such a large firm it would be easy to feel like a cog in the machine but it’s the total opposite.

The company really looks after the staff and there’s a great social circle amongst the team.

I’ve already been on so many work events and just started playing football with the company side.

What advice would you offer to anyone looking to begin a career in Business Support?

The world of business support is quite varied and there are many different roles you can choose from so I would really look into it and see what takes your interest and work from there. I had previously worked in sales roles and found myself moving towards the procurement side.

Procurement can be quite intense so it would certainly suit someone who likes to work under pressure as you’re always working under strict deadlines, some of which can be incredibly short! You also need good organisational skills as you’re never working on just one thing at any one time.

It’s job which can easily turn into a career as you can advance by taking globally recognised qualifications exams with Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) so there’s always a chance of progressing.
