Life in Enterprise Professional Services at Resolution IT

Senior Consultant, Matt Liot, explains what it’s like working in Enterprise Professional Services at Resolution IT Jersey

Firstly, who are you and how long have you been at Resolution IT?

I’m Matt, Senior Consultant in Resolution IT’s Enterprise Professional Services team. I’ve been with the company for just over a year based in our Jersey office.

What does your role consist of?

Everything and anything! My work primarily revolves around client-specific projects, ranging from simple infrastructure updates to full-scale application deployments and migrations, navigating the complexities of coordinating multiple teams, resources, and stakeholders. The project-based nature of my role means that during lulls in scheduled tasks, I dive into various other responsibilities. You might find me lending my expertise to team members, assisting users during site visits, or engaging with clients to discuss upcoming projects and strategize how we can achieve their goals.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

That’s an easy one—the satisfaction of completing a project for a client. Being involved from the very beginning, navigating through the initial requirements, design phases, deployments, testing, and finally going live. Knowing that we’ve met, and hopefully exceeded, the client’s expectations brings an incredible sense of accomplishment when a project wraps up.

What’s your favourite part about working at Resolution IT?

The variety of work within Resolution IT is great, being a small team in Jersey has meant having to get stuck in with some work that I haven’t had much experience with before, but I’ve always been interested in continual learning and development, and I’ve had plenty of that over the last year. There’s also a great camaraderie between us in the Jersey office, and the sense that we’re really helping to grow the Jersey site into something special.

What advice would you offer to anyone looking to begin a career in IT?

Don’t stress about specifics—just give it a go! The IT field offers a wide range of pathways, allowing you to explore different areas and discover what truly excites you. Starting with entry-level positions or internships to gain a broad understanding of IT in general. While not every role will meet all your preferences, keeping an open mind will help you discover which aspects you enjoy and which ones not so much!

Embrace continuous learning—IT evolves rapidly, so keeping up with new technologies and trends is essential. Networking is also key; connect with industry professionals for guidance and opportunities.

If you find your niche, utilise resources like online courses, certifications, and workshops to specialise, advance and build the career you want.
