Resolution IT welcome Guernsey Cyber Security Review

Resolution IT welcome the Guernsey Cyber Security Review that has been released today, particularly that the importance of this topic is being highlighted.

The consequences of cyber attacks are devastating to both businesses and individuals so protection against such crime is vital.

Resolution IT, Joint Managing Director, Olly Duquemin comments,

“There is a perception within the business community that because of our geographical location, we are immune to a lot of security threats.  In reality, as Guernsey is such a global player in financial services, it actually means we are a direct target.  Cyber security needs to be prioritised because it can seriously threaten the survival of businesses.  Guernsey is a great place to do business and everyone must be vigilant of cyber crime to ensure we remain a trusted jurisdiction. Overall the review is a positive step for Guernsey.”

This is not just a threat for the finance industry a because cyber criminals will target all industries, so all businesses must be vigilant.

Mr Duquemin continues,

“Cyber crime is highly lucrative for criminals so it’s not going away.  Gone are the days when viruses were just an annoyance.  Cyber crime constantly evolves for maximum damage making cyber security a journey rather than a quick fix.  All companies that use IT must start and continue on this journey.  The threat is now so high, that it’s simply foolish to take no action.”

Resolution IT wholly support the vision that Guernsey can become both a thought and market-leader in cyber-education, cyber-defense, data privacy and digital security – with the right actions and education implemented. Resolution IT advise, as a minimum, that companies prioritise a security review and education for their staff.  The Guernsey Cyber Strategy Review can be accessed here.
