The recent security breach of Apple’s App Store should be acknowledged, particularly by companies with remote working staff. Resolution IT have issued the following information regarding the latest security threat from Apple and how it can effect local businesses.
Apple has issued a security warning regarding some malicious software which has infected Apps for iPhone and iPad. The malware named XcodeGhost has been found in a number of legitimate apps and anyone using WeChat, a competitor of WhatsApp is advised not to for the time being.

“Apple technology is renown for being highly protected, which is why this security threat from the company should be taken seriously. Staff who work remotely will be accessing company data on mobile devices, which is exactly how modern technology should be used, but companies must ensure the correct security is in place to protect their company data, particularly those operating from multiple worldwide locations.”
The malware which has been embedded in Apps can steal login details, open websites and read and write data on the devices’ clipboard.
Steve explains that Resolution IT encourage remote working practices for companies, but to make sure that the correct protection is implemented.
“There is no need for companies to be fearful of employees utilising the multitude of IT solutions that allow for flexible working, but first ensure they have the correct security solutions in place, on all devices, to protect their company data. The effects of a security hack can be catastrophic, for businesses of any size, and prevention is always better than the cure.”
Basic checks to help protect your devices:
- Make sure all Apple devices and Apps are updated to the current version as each update will have further protection
- Look out for any strange behavior on your Apple devices
- Backup your devices regularly
- Changing passwords can help as a precaution
Whilst this security threat is relevant to Apple devices, it is possible that all mobile platforms could be at risk including Android and Microsoft.
