Resolution IT launches new bursary scheme

Resolution IT has launched its first ever bursary scheme designed to nurture and support talented young Guernsey students in the field of computing and information technology.

The bursary is aimed at year 13 pupils in the local colleges and sixth form centre, and offers a £1,500 annual grant to the successful applicant during their degree course, a laptop for the student to work on, paid work at Resolution IT during University holidays and the potential for full time employment at the end of their studies.

Pierre Jehan, Client Services Director, said it was important for Resolution IT to invest in local skills.

‘We are very much a Guernsey company and keen supporters of any initiatives that encourage the development of computer related skills and the digital economy such as the Digital Greenhouse. Resolution IT likes to invest in young people, particularly school leavers as our experience has shown that by doing so they soon become invaluable members of the team.’

He added,  ‘tTe bursary is a great way for us to help a bright young student with aspirations of going places in IT by contributing to their costs of studying off island, providing practical experience during the three or four years of their degree and potentially, to starting a career with us.’

Sarah Stonebridge, Head of Careers at States Education, confirmed she was very pleased to see this bursary launched by Resolution IT.

‘It is really exciting to see a bursary being offered by such an innovative and dynamic company such as Resolution IT. Our work with employers is essential if we are to ensure that young people, parents and schools are provided with reliable and timely careers information to support effective career decisions and preparation for the world of work.

‘Resolution IT already support the work experience programme and this new bursary offer is another great opportunity for young people to engage with industry and develop their employability skills,’ she said.

The student bursary is aimed at year 13 pupils planning tertiary studies in a computer related subject in the autumn of next year, and applications are now open, with the closing date for entries on 31 January 2017. A final decision will be made in March of next year.
