Timely warning from head of British Army about cyber threats

The news today that the head of the British Army is calling for sufficient resources to be spent on combating cyber attacks is a timely reminder of their increasing threat and our own James Kelsh, Senior Information Security Consultant, agrees that the dangers of data theft and reputational damage are clearly on the increase.

‘Today’s cyber criminals are getting more and more sophisticated with their methods of trying to extract money or data from us. In the early 1990’s there was, on average, one new virus every hour. Fast forward to now and it’s well over a staggering 13,000. With that level of threat (and rising) and the digital landscape continually changing, coupled with the imminent implementation of GDPR, I can’t stress enough how important  it is for everyone to make sure they have taken all rasonable measures to secure and protect their digital data. For companies in particular, huge fines will be levied if they haven’t taken the correct measures and suffer a data breach.

‘As one of only two IT managed services providers in Guernsey who offer the UK government recognised Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certification, we know how important being certified has become. Many companies are increasingly considering only doing business with companies that can prove they have taken all necessary steps to protect their data.’
