Life as a Marketer at Resolution IT
Brand & Marketing Manager, Tove Barnes, explains what it’s like working in marketing at Resolution IT
There’s a lot more to a career in IT than you might think. To demonstrate this further, we’re going to be speaking to Resolution IT teammates from each of our departments, across all three of our locations.
Over the next few weeks, you’ll get to know Resolution IT’s people in customer success, information security, service delivery, business support, and more. This week, we’re kicking things off with Tove Barnes, who manages Resolution IT’s marketing.
Firstly, who are you and how long have you been at Resolution IT?
I’m Tove, Resolution IT’s Brand and Marketing Manager. I’ve been with the company for almost three years now and for the last two years I’ve worked remotely from the UK.
What does your role consist of?
It’s hard to know where to start – my role is so varied. I basically take care of all of Resolution IT’s external-facing bits. Covering website, social media, external communications, blog posts, events, design, case studies, advertising, and email marketing. I also work closely with our sales team to engage with prospects and streamline our sales process.
My main objective is to generate inbound enquiries to the company – essentially spreading the word about who we are to encourage prospects to get in touch with us.
My day usually consists of writing a few articles, scheduling social media posts, liaising with our agencies on any ongoing projects, and strategizing new campaigns and ways to get Resolution IT noticed. You can often find me padding out our content calendar, interviewing clients for case studies, updating the service pages on our website, or chatting with our department heads about their services.
Although I deal with the majority of our content creation in-house, I also get to collaborate with different vendors including our copywriting agency; Stratton Craig, our Digital Marketing agency; Clicksmith, and our graphic design agency; Spy Studio, who are all a joy to work with and make my life much easier!
I work to a quarterly campaign cycle, so I’ll focus on three or four core objectives for that quarter. I work with the directors to establish our priorities, then get to work making things happen. Usually, it will be to promote a particular service through the creation of engaging assets like eBooks, advertising campaigns, or events. There are also general brand awareness campaigns that are all about getting the Resolution IT name out there.
One of my favourite examples of this is the annual Resolution IT Design Challenge that I started with Joe Wilkinson a few years ago. It’s a competition for children in years 3-6 across the Channel Islands, where we task them with designing a new invention. This year, students had to design a futuristic form of transport. It’s so much fun. You can read more about that here.
