Rupert Walmsley, Resolution IT’s Dubai Managing Director, reflects on 2023
It’s remarkable how quickly this year has gone and it’s all too easy to get swept up in future planning without taking the time to reflect on the things we’ve achieved over the last 12-months. So, before we find ourselves in 2024, I’ve written this article to acknowledge Resolution IT Dubai’s highlights from 2023.
Joining Forces with Resolution IT Channel Islands
A pivotal moment from the last 12-months at Resolution IT Dubai is certainly the globalisation of the company. At the start of the year, Resolution IT Dubai officially moved under the ‘Resolution IT Group’ umbrella. As well as shifting all our systems and processes to be in-line with the group and working more closely with our teammates in the Channel Islands, we also launched a new global website. Where previously we had two separate websites, resolution-it.co.uk and resolutionit.ae, our Guernsey, Jersey and Dubai offices now share the same resolutionit.com domain. This comes with the increased number of clients that operate in both jurisdictions.
This shift has been really exciting for us, it’s been fantastic collaborating with teammates in the UK and I was also lucky enough to visit the Guernsey office over the summer. Although we’re based thousands of miles apart, the technology we have in place means we can collaborate and communicate seamlessly, and it truly feels like we are one company.
Expanding and Upskilling our Team
Our Dubai-based team has expanded this year, we now have 12 members of the team in our JLT office who bring in a breadth of experience and expertise. In addition to this, many members of the team have gained new certifications to increase their skills and provide better support to our clients.
The expansion and upskilling of our team comes in response to the new clients we’ve onboarded since January. We have welcomed some brilliant new companies to the roster, increasing our end-user count by several hundred. We have also been lucky enough to receive great feedback from many of our clients, including Store Makers Middle East who were kind enough to work with us on a case study.
Team Building, Community and Socials
We welcomed Roshan to the Dubai office for some work experience, to learn the ins and outs of a career in IT. I was also delighted to attend the Dubai British School’s careers fair, which gave students the opportunity to ask questions about what an IT company does, learn more about my role and typical workday, and to better understand potential career paths.
We’ve had some great fun with the team this year, rounding off 2023 with a festive party in the desert to thank everyone for their hard work over the year.
If I Had to Choose a Negative…
For me, a big downside of this year has been the sheer number of people we keep hearing about that are struggling from a cyber security perspective. It’s frustrating for us to hear about cyber security horror stories that could’ve easily been avoided, often due to quick fixes that have been missed by their current IT provider. It does amaze me how tolerant so many companies are of poor IT and cyber security – it really doesn’t have to be that way. A big aim for us in 2024 is to help guide as many of these organisations as we can to steadfast and secure IT support and solutions.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead into 2024, we have a lot of exciting projects aimed at increasing alignment and strengthening the Resolution IT group. The work we’ve done over the last 12-months on this is already making a serious impact and driving our business forwards, so I can’t wait for what’s next. Aside from this, I’m looking forward to continuing to network with new prospects and make new partnerships.
To our colleagues and clients, thank you for your support, hard work and loyalty over the last 12-months. I wish you all a Happy Christmas and a great start to 2024!
